There are 4 state compatibility test for turbine oil (i think we can adopt to another different lubricating oil). Test will be pass when test results are equal or better of the two constituent and fail when result is inferior.state 1. visual compatible with paramater phase separations, fluid clarity or sediment rating.State 2. interfacial properties like Foaming characteristics, demulsibility, air release property, MPC, and pentane insolubleState 3. Physical dan Chemical Properties with general spesifications (Viscosity, Metal content, TAN, etc) State 4. Performance Test for spesific evaluation (RPVOT, HTOT, Copper Corrosion, Anilien Point etc.)We can say compatible when test results equal or better and fail when test results inferior of the poorer of the constituent oils.

Galvanic Corrosion👉The reason connecting two steel can lead to problems. Galvanic corrosion is when one metal causes another metal to corrode and break down.👉For this corrosion to start, there need to be three things: an anode (one metal), a cathode (a second metal), and an electrolyte (water is a common one).👉Some metals are more likely to give their electrons away, and others are more eager to pull in extra electrons. That means combining these different types of metals in electrolyte-heavy environments causes one metal to hand its electrons over to the other.👉When a metal gives away electrons, galvanic corrosion starts, and the metal rusts.

The case study on high temperature hydrogen attack (HTHA) in the loop BFW preheater identified cracks at the welds between the partition plate and shell. The failure analysis indicated that HTHA was the main cause of the damage, supported by intergranular cracks, decarburization, and low levels of Cr and Mo in the filler metal. The repair involved grinding and re-welding, followed by non-destructive testing. This study highlights the importance of proper material selection, adherence to design specifications, and regular inspections to detect HTHA and ensure the reliability and safety of similar heat exchangerssourcehttps://lnkd.in/dyigT5Ei

As part of Dry Gas Seal refurbishment process, spin testing is mandatory step need to be held on Mating Ring component (Silicon Carbide or Tungsten Carbide material) in the prevention of centrifugal burst disaster.

Maybe 1.25 Cr 0.5 Mo wasn't the best material selection in the design stage. Design/Operating conditions were too close to the point were 1.25 Cr 0.5 Mo curve in API941 dramatically changes its slope thus reducing safety margin. I would have suggested using P22 (2.25 Cr 1.0 Mo) instead, if possible. Here there is another post about HTHA in SynLoop BFW Heater involving 1.25 Cr 0.5 Mo: https://lnkd.in/dht4TFDZ

Centrifugal compressors run at speedsbetween 20,000 and 30,000 RPM. Spin testing of Dry Gas Seal Mating Rings is crucial. DGS Mating rings are made of brittle materials (Silicon Carbide, Tungsten Carbide) prone for cracking into small pieces upon developing hairline crack, these pieces may damage compressor components and cause a costlier failure. #gasseal #testing
